Jefferson
Lab's Computational Sciences and Technology (CST) Division seeks to
hire a Data Center Operations Manager. The person in this role will own
the overall data center (DC) operation at the laboratory, is able to support future state of the art IT solution deployments and growth, and is energy efficient. Are you

center and its infrastructure, processes, documentation, and tools so

In this role you will:

Establish and lead a data center team and nurture relations with the partner organizations so that the site is able to achieve its availability targets. Ensure that the DC’s infrastructure components are fully maintained on schedule and within their useful lifespan, that these infrastructure components are not offline for repairs for extended periods of time, and that the data center team is the first to know about events that impact the site and is capable of addressing these incidents in a timely fashion.
- Lead physical data center solution migrations. Collaborate with partners to plan out, design, and deliver new data center facility constructions, site expansions and retrofits. Ensure that new data center infrastructure is installed, commissioned, and documented properly before the team puts them into production. Make sure that site construction, enhancement, and commissioning do not result in unplanned IT service outages when this work is done on infrastructure that supports production IT services. Manage projects (for new infrastructure, tools, process, etc.) that will improve the DC operation and prepare the site to support future IT solutions that evolve over time.

Manage the CST part of the physical data center budget.
- Own all work carried out in data center spaces—confirm that measures are taken to prevent a safety or DC operation incident. Plan data center maintenance, upgrades, etc. that will require an IT service(s) outage with stakeholders. Align the data center team and its partners and schedule such events so that the service users’ needs are met. Update the affected users throughout event.
- Lead ongoing data center IT equipment lifecycle effort.
- Develop, review, and audit of methods of procedures (MOP's) and emergency operating procedures (EOPs) for electrical, mechanical, fire detection/alerting/-suppression, and IT infrastructure. Document and track data center changes, maintenances, and repairs done (in the form of online work requests, methods of procedures (MOPs), runbooks, etc.) to streamline similar future work.

Coordinate and provide on call support for after-hours events.
Qualifications We Require:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Information Systems,
Computer Science or related field or equivalent education and
experience.
Experience:
- 10+ years of progressive
professional (not academic) experience in data center operation (or
similar mission critical facility), capacity management, design,
incident management, and complex problem identification and
troubleshooting.
- 5+ years of experience in administering and managing facility preventative maintenance efforts and budgets, managing people, and writing technical procedures.
- 5+ years of experience in scheduling tasks, communicating plans with stakeholders, budgeting, metrics reporting, building relationships with both partners and the data center users.
- 5+ years of experience in keeping all who work in the data center safe by maintaining a safe environment through processes/practices.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledgeable in new data center infrastructure fit out testing, commissioning, and documentation.
- Extensive knowledge of data center operations best practices.
- Experienced in keeping all who work in the data center safe by maintaining a safe environment through processes/practices.
- Data center capacity management.
- Must attain Data Center Energy Practitioner (DCEP) Generalist, HVAC
Specialist, and IT Specialist certifications within 9 months of
employment.
- Ability to draft conceptual data center space and cable solution designs for interactions with partners.
- Comprehensive understanding of effective project management practices
and principles and demonstrates proficiency in applying a disciplined
approach to project management.
- Communicate (both written and oral) effectively to management and technical subject matter experts.

Give effective presentations to management.
- Experienced in scheduling
tasks, communicating plans with stakeholders, budgeting, metrics
reporting, building relationships with both partners and the data center
users.
- Computer skills with experience using site and IT service monitoring/alerting, DCIM, and ITSM tools as well as Microsoft Office 365.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or MBA.
- Demonstrated experience working with data center infrastructure management (DCIM), IT service management (ITSM), data center incident management, lifecycle management, and media handling tools and their supporting processes.
