Jefferson Lab is seeking a team member with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who can successfully prioritize multiple tasks to support Hall C. The successful candidate will work from verbal, written, and graphic instructions to provide technical/mechanical support on all aspects in the installation of systems and equipment related to the Jefferson Lab Hall C experimental program. One main aspect of the technical work will be working independently to support the vacuum, cryogenic and controls systems.

In this role you will:

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on vacuum pumps, turbos, readout gauges and maintain spares
  • Become familiar with Hall C vacuum, cryogenic and controls systems and their operation sufficient to shut down and restart vacuum, LCW and other Hall C infrastructure equipment
  • Work on all vacuum and mechanical aspects in the installation and decommissioning of experimental setup in Hall C
  • Assist with the operational readiness of Hall C during experiments. This includes the day-to-day monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Provide technical support for staff, users, and college students conducting research
  • Work with machine tools such as milling machine, lathe, drill press, brake press etc. manufacturing parts from various materials of drawings, sketches or verbal instructions
  • Obtain one or more welding processes (SMAW, TIG, Soldering, FCAW, and MIG) plus knowledge of welding equipment
  • Procure and fit/assemble parts for beam line and spectrometer arrangements, vacuum components and LCW systems
  • This position requires periods of on call support and can require some overtime or shift work at times



Qualifications we require:

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Additional education may be substituted for work experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • General knowledge of good practices in using hand and power tools
  • The ability to safely operate, cranes, forklifts, trucks and trailers and work platforms
  • General knowledge of electromechanical equipment.
  • Effective communication skills as it relates to providing feedback to co-workers, users or designers and the understanding of written or verbal work instructions and documentation
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment, as well as flexible hours when required during beam operation



Qualifications we prefer:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office
  • The ability to utilize vacuum test equipment such as a helium leak detector, residual gas analyzer (RGA), vacuum pumps, turbos, readout and test gauges
  • Ability to complete TIG, Stick and/or MIG welding
