What your job will be like:

The Safety System Group (SSG) of the Accelerator Engineering Systems Department is seeking an Electronic/Electrical Technician. The incumbent will be required to work under general supervision to provide support and technical skills related to the Personal Safety System (PSS), Machine Protection System (MPS), and Oxygen Deficiency Hazards System (ODH) used around the Jefferson Lab Facility. This support will involve assistance in the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of safety integrated systems and related components. This will include knowledge of electrical and electronic theory as well as collaboration with engineers, technicians, electricians, designers, and other staff. This position requires periods of on-call support and occasional shift work.

In this role, you will:

  • Work with a team of engineers and technicians to install, support and maintain systems managed by SSG (PSS, ODH, MPS).
  • Work on well-defined tasks under close supervision.
  • Be responsible for completing assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of electronics and supporting theory.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of projects, components, tasks, etc.
  • Be able to maintain configuration control, accurate documentation, and procedures for responsible tasks and projects consistent with JLab and DOE standards.
  • Be able to identify and communicate environmental, health, safety, (ESH) and quality assurance (QA) issues to group members and immediate supervisor.

Qualifications We Require:

Education:

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or
  • High School Diploma

Experience:

  • 2 years relevant experience, or
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Demonstrates an understanding of analog and digital electronic principals and experience with common test equipment.
  • Capable of following technical directives and utilizing schematic drawings.
  • Versed in performing basic electronic tasks like soldering and cable termination.
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills including the ability to clearly present technical information to varying levels of staff including higher level management.
  • Familiar and comfortable using software tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to obtain Radiological Worker, ODH Worker and Qualified Electrical/Electronic Worker qualifications (JLab training).
