What you job will be like:
As a member of the Physics Division, this position will construct, test and operate Micro Pattern Gaseous Detector (MPGD) technology within the Radiation Detector and Imaging Group for applications in nuclear physics with a focus on applications in the Electron Ion Collider (EIC).

In this role you will:

  • Facilitate the production, commissioning and later integration of the Electron Ion Collider (EIC) ePIC Barrel outer MPGD tracker
  • Complete generic MPGD instrumentation research and development.
  • Assist with detector technology issues and maintenance related to the EIC program by taking the initiative and when requested.
  • Maintain the Detector Group and ensureits facilities are fully equipped to pursue the development of MPGDs for the EIC ePIC Barrel outer MPGD tracker.

Qualifications we require:

Education

  • Ph.D. in Nuclear or Particle Physics

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to develop MPGD systems, including development of readout electronics and data acquisition systems (DAQ)
  • Experience with the VMM3a-based data acquisition instrumentation as applied to MPGD readout
  • Knowledge of modern programming languages as applied to data acquisition instrumentation and data analysis
  • Ability to use CAD/CAM packages to facilitate MPGD design

Qualifications we prefer:

Experience

  • 1 plus years in experimental nuclear or high energy physics using MPGD-based detectors through simulation, design and construction
  • Leading role in the development, CAD/CAM based design and construction of MPGD instrumentation.
