What your job will be like:

Facilities Management & Logistics is responsible for performing or specifying performance of all Jefferson Lab facility maintenance, construction, security, property, and facility services. As an Electrical Engineer (Sustainability), you will be responsible for conducting day-to-day facility operation performance tracking/monitoring using state of the art energy analytic tools to improve facility operation and reduce energy usage. Targeted areas include electrical systems and controls, boiler and chiller optimization, photovoltaic and energy storage systems, lighting controls and improvements, building commissioning, system simulations and integration, and system improvement training sessions for operations staff.

In this role you will:

  • Plans, designs, and oversees the reconfiguration, maintenance, operation and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, and other laboratory facilities. Integrates facility sustainability operational considerations in support of DOE and Laboratory sustainability goals.
  • Collaborate with facilities engineering staff in the implementation of condition assessments, functionality assessments, comprehensive energy and water evaluations, and annual reporting requirements as required by the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007, Section 432 for TJNAF site designated “Covered Facilities” every four years with the objective of identifying and implementing energy and water conservation measures. This includes:
    • ASHRAE Level 1 and 2 Energy & Water Audits for each covered facility documented in a final report.
    • Perform commissioning assessments for each covered facility that functionally test building systems control
      routines and equipment operation. A commissioning plan and final report is generated for each facility on a
      four-year cycle.
  • May perform or provide oversight of commissioning of facility modifications and new construction with the objective of verifying compliance with applicable sustainability requirements.
  • Lead or support TJNAF metering program, including performing metering maintenance, testing, and executing corrective actions. Daily monitor facility operations to provide building operational control center capabilities to facilities maintenance and operations staff. Leverages building automation, data analytic, fault diagnostic and detection, and other various software packages to execute work, reduce energy and use, and increase overall
    campus sustainability.
  • Perform life cycle analysis (LCA) calculations and execute approved LCA energy conservation measures consistent with Energy Act 2020 requirements.
  • May perform or provide oversight of commissioning of facility modifications and new construction with the objective of verifying compliance with applicable sustainability requirements.


Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's in Engineering
  • 4 years of relevant experience


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Able to effectively train his/her work group and effectively lead work teams within the work group.
  • Able to give effective presentations to general audiences and write convincing proposals and reports with all necessary backup material for lab consumption.
