What your job will be like:

As an experienced Master HVAC Technician, you will be responsible for complex troubleshooting to determine job requirements and repair strategies, identifying required materials, coordinating repair tasks, and performing repairs or providing guidance to those performing the work on the mechanical systems that support the lab's mission. You will coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance operations associated with Jefferson Lab's real property assets and provide "Quality Assurance Evaluations" of both JLab junior staff Mechanical Technicians and subcontracted services on work assigned and ensure that the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Maximo is used for managing, recording and communicating service and work request efforts under this position's responsibilities.

In this role, you will:

  • Respond independently and resolve simple to complex tasks associated with Lab’s Preventative and Corrective Maintenance of the following mechanical equipment: chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, air compressors, heat exchangers, heat pumps, air conditioning equipment, vacuum pumps, filtration, gaseous distribution systems, control devices, etc. as well as electrical systems at the lab,
  • Develop fair and reasonable cost estimates based on job requirements, industry rates and market value,
  • Develop clear instructions for reporting to those reporting to his/her lead,
  • Receive, review and record work orders using a computerized work maintenance management system work (Maximo), and
  • Resolve issues at lowest level with associates, subcontractors, lab personnel and other Facilities Management and Logistics personnel.

Qualifications We Require:

  • High School Diploma
  • 9 years of experience in HVAC systems (Education above the minimum may be substituted for experience)
    • HVAC Masters license upon hire
      • EPA Certified Refrigerant Handler – Universal Upon Hire
      • Computer skills with Microsoft Office and CMMS

      Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

      • Demonstrated expert level of knowledge and experience in industrial/commercial mechanical and HVAC operation, maintenance, and construction.
      • Ability to troubleshoot (knowledge of theory, design, and techniques used at the component and systems level), develop repair strategies, communicate to management and affected room and building owners the schedules and impacts associated with the preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
      • Demonstrated knowledge of the International Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fuel Gas Codes. Must be able to implement this knowledge into daily work tasks with limited general direction.
      • Current valid driver’s license.
