Jefferson Lab is seeking a creative Photography and/or Videography student to join our team as the newest Multimedia Intern.

What your job will look like:

Reporting into the Creative Services arm of the Communications Office, you will be responsible for assisting the Multimedia Photo and Video Specialist in a variety of photographic and/or videography needs. More emphasis is needed assisting with photographic assignments like photography, post-processing/editing, metadata creation, and historical archiving. Videography skills are a plus and there is room for videography work, if interested. You will use your technical expertise, creativity, and compositional skills to document and preserve a Department of Energy national lab’s history.

In this role, you will...

  • Photograph, post-process/edit, and archive various visual themes and subjects at Jefferson Lab for use in publications, scientific research presentations, online websites, social media use, and internal and external communication needs.
  • Create extensive metadata for all images for historical archiving purposes.
  • Provide photographic support for the website, social media channels, and other lab departments.
  • Use, or to be trained in: Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Suite, Photo Mechanic, Final Cut Pro, Preservica (archiving system.)


Required Skills:

  • Wide range of media, including photography and post-production editing.
  • Understanding of manual camera settings, lighting subjects, and/or studio setups.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Outstanding oral communications skills.
  • Skilled at handling multiple tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and complete complex and varied tasks with limited supervision.
  • Ability to understand complex problems and to collaborate, explore and implement alternative solutions.
  • Ability to work well in a team with others, including printers, copywriters, photographers, other designers, account executives, website designers and/or market specialists.
  • Excellent organizational skills.


Full-time college student majoring in Photography, Videography, or other multimedia areas with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.


Candidate must be a US citizen.

Must be available to work a 18-20 hours per week during school sessions and 40 hours per week between school sessions (ex: spring break, summer break, and winter break)

Preferred Skills:

  • Canon equipment knowledge preferred.
  • Knowledge of videography helpful.
  • Writing and copyediting skills, AP style.
  • Knowledge of other photography/videography software, such as Photo Mechanic, Final Cut Pro.
  • Knowledge and love of science, STEM, science communication, especially physics.
  • Professional experience and customer service skills working alongside VIP guests including politicians, high leadership positions, stakeholders, etc.
