What your job will be like:
The Gluonic Excitation Experiment (GlueX) at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) was designed to study the light-quark meson spectrum and to confirm or refute the contribution of hybrid mesons. To unveil the full potential of its world-leading high-precision data and ultimately to achieve its scientific mission, novel approaches must be developed. We are looking for a postdoctoral research fellow to strengthen our efforts using modern analysis methods and high-performance computing.

In this role you will:

  • Apply amplitude analysis methods to extract signals for exotic mesons from GlueX data
  • Develop and benchmark analysis software on top-of-the-line graphics processors (GPUs)
  • Lead the investigation into novel AI/ML methods for problems in hadron spectroscopy
  • Present results on international conferences and contribute to publications
  • Possibility for contribution to development of real-time data processing schemes on FPGAs for GlueX detector upgrade

Qualifications we require:

Education

  • Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing (e.g. email, memos, explanations, drawings) and explain work to his/her supervisor and others in the group
  • Ability to interact well with work group
  • Represent work associated with specific projects at professional meetings
  • Experience in data analysis

Qualifications we prefer:

  • Experience with AI/ML techniques
  • Experience in hadron spectroscopy using amplitude analysis is
