What your job will be like:

Do you have proven experience with beam dynamics and optics simulations? Do you have an interest in a permanent Halbach accelerator magnet design? Jefferson Lab is looking for the next Grunder Fellow to contribute to key elements of the CEBAF 22 GeV upgrade and CEBAF polarized positrons program - an accelerator physicist with expertise in beam optics design, including nonlinear optics design, optimization and correction. The Fellow will contribute to FFA optics design for the 22 GeV upgrade, including possible implementation of prototype beamline elements and demonstration tests. The Fellow will also contribute to design of optical systems for collecting and transporting positron beams with large transverse and longitudinal emittances. Come and join our team!

In this role you will:

  • Plan, coordinate, and complete beam dynamics projects independently, or as part of a team with specific focus on the 22 GeV and e+ upgrades
  • Use simulation codes to determine system performance and subsystem requirements
  • Collaborate with engineers to develop detailed specifications for all sub-systems
  • Routinely document progress and codes using familiarity of version control concepts.
  • Write work for publication in papers and tech notes
