What your job will be like:

Jefferson Lab’s Hall A/C is looking for a Staff Scientist who will supports the facilities and operations of Halls A and C. You will have major responsibility for at least one aspect of Hall operations and take an active role in the experiments in the Halls and provide support for users. You will also develop your own scientific program and present your finding at conferences.

In this role you will:

  • Maintain a Hall A or C subsystem such as DAQ, software, polarimeter, detectors or beamline etc.
  • Take a leadership role in one or more upcoming initiatives such as novel target development, the LAD experiment, the SBS GEp experiment, the MOLLER experiment, the hypernuclear program, or the Solenoidal Large Intensity Device
  • Develop a scientific program, preferably as a (Co)-Spokesperson
  • Participate in the planning, execution and data analysis of the running experiments.
  • Present JLab experimental results at conferences

Qualifications we require:

Education

  • Ph.D. Nuclear Physics or Particle Physics

Experience and Education Exchange

  • Education above the minimum may not be substituted for experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in scientific data collection, data management, and data analysis concepts,
  • Good programming skills and experience with programs commonly applied in nuclear and particle physics,
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out creative research within an established framework, to apply advanced principles, theories, and concepts, and to contribute to the development of new principles and concepts,
  • Author or co-author of scientific publications in high-level international journals,
  • Self-motivated and able to work in an international team environment,
  • Ability to effectively communicate with outside & foreign participants in hardware and software projects,
