What your job will be like:

Jefferson Lab target systems operate in a variety of extreme environments such as high magnet fields, high pressures, ultra-low vacuum, room and cryogenic temperatures, and regions of very high ionizing radiation. The Target Group is seeking an experienced electrical and electronics technician to assist in planning and scheduling work in coordination with team members and project managers to achieve directive within set deadlines.

In this role you will:

  • Assist scientists, and engineers in the design, documentation, and implementation the industrial automation controls used for target systems at Jefferson Lab
  • Design, fabricate, and install custom electronic chassis and distribution panels for monitoring and controlling target systems
  • Test commercial and custom electronics and electrical equipment for monitoring and controlling target systems
  • Coordinate the fabrication and installation of cable runs including conduit and cable trays between control electronics and target hardware
  • Specify electrical power requirements for target installations based on specified equipment list
  • Perform specific hazardous energy controls to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electronic and electrical equipment in the Target Group facilities and in the experimental halls
  • Assist in the transport, installation, and removal of target systems and equipment to and from the experimental halls
  • Maintain required tools and diagnostic equipment, as well as an electrical supply inventory and spares sufficient to ensure the group can fulfill its mission
  • Provide on-call support when needed

Qualifications we require:

Education

  • High School Diploma

Experience

  • 9 or more years of relevant experience

Experience and Education Exchange

Education above the minimum may be substituted for experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively, both as an individual and as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate clearly with others and explain work to other team members via verbal and written explanations, drawings, memo
  • Ability to read and comprehend 2D mechanical and electrical drawings as well as process and instrumentation drawings (P&ID)
  • Detailed knowledge of electronics and electrical equipment and automation controls
  • Demonstrated proficiency with basic electronic/electrical test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, clamp meters
  • Demonstrated proficiency with basic hand and power tools such as drills, saws, grinders, sanders
  • Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office and CAD skills to include, AutoDesk Inventor and AutoCAD
  • Detailed knowledge of NFPA 70 and 70E

Qualifications we prefer:

Education:

  • Associate's degree Physics, Engineering, or Electrical/Electronics Technology

Licenses

  • AutoCAD Electrical Certification Electrical certification such as a journeyman trade license is upon hire
