What your job will be like:

Jefferson Lab’s ESH Division seeks an Environmental Technician to provide support to Environmental Program Manager and serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all facets of Waste Management Program. Come and join our team!

In this role you will:

  • Support Environmental Program Manager with monthly waste generation volume inventory
  • Perform waste management inspections
  • Manage CAA waste storage area and onsite SAAs spill response
  • Manage spill response equipment inventory
  • Conduct sampling and submittal for analysis as needed for waste characterization
  • Execute preparation for waste management disposal shipments with waste vendors

Qualifications We Require:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma + 9 years previous experience in an environmental, waste management or related field performing environmental inspections and interface with stakeholders (clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Previous experience with RCRA waste management compliance including waste inventory and shipment preparation
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Word/Excel
  • Knowledge of applicable environmental regulations including RCRA, DOT, OSHA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act;
  • Basic knowledge of environmental contamination/sampling/analysis;
  • Knowledge of GIS application
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel applications for report preparation and data analysis

Qualifications We Desire:

Education, Certifications and Experience:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental related field with 2-5 years of previous experience related to waste management; previous experience performing spill response actions

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Previous experience with RCRA Waste Management compliance that includes waste inventory, shipment preparation, waste transfers is a plus
  • Previous experience with spill response actions is a plus
  • Previous experience using Microsoft Word and Excel for reporting and data analysis is a plus

Mental Requirements

  • Ability to problem solve with Environmental Program Manager to resolve onsite issues related to waste management in order to identify areas for continuous improvement
  • Ability to collaborate with other ES&H staff, Facilities Management, Physics, Cryo, SRF representatives to provide waste management support

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform onsite work that includes being subjected to the elements
  • Ability to work in both office and onsite conditions as required
  • Must be able to bend, twist, lift up to 40 lbs to perform transfer of waste storage drums from SAAs to CAA
  • Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, reach, and kneel to perform site waste management inspections
  • Must be able to traverse long walking distances throughout the lab to provide onsite response to small spills/releases of oil and fuel
  • Must complete onsite training in forklift operations
  • Must learn how to operate drum dollys to assist with proper lifting of heavy containers
