What your job will be like:
Lead the Industrial Safety & Hygiene programs at Jefferson Laboratory, ensuring the development and execution of OSHA 1910 and DOE 10 CFR 851-compliant lab-wide policies, procedures, and initiatives either directly or through the delegation of responsibilities to group staff. Provide professional guidance on hazard mitigation strategies, provide process design recommendations, or alternatives that minimize worker exposures. Continuously interact with laboratory management, staff, and committees to gauge the performance of the Safety & Hygiene program and develop/implement corrective actions and improvement activities. The Group Leader will direct the day-to-day activities of Safety & Hygiene staff; monitor, measure, and improve their performance; and satisfy various administrative duties required as a supervisor.

In this role you will:

  • Supervise staff responsible for the development and execution of industrial safety (IS) & hygiene (IH) programs such as respiratory protection, confined space entry, scaffolding, fall protection, machine tools, ladder safety, hazard communication, thermal stress, construction safety, non-ionizing radiation, and chemical hygiene
  • Designate SMEs for IH & IS program areas
  • Manage the non-radiological worker exposure monitoring program and the associated results and records
  • Review and approve specifications IH equipment, fume hoods, safety showers and eyewashes, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Review various line organization's work planning documents and designs to assure safe and compliant activities are being planned
  • Participate in investigations and assessments including the development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions
  • Manage input to safety & hygiene related procurements and procurement controls
  • Establish a network with counterparts at other DOE laboratories and other appropriate organizations for the sharing of lessons learned and best practices


    Qualifications We Require:

    Education:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Engineering or related field

    Experience:

    • 10 or more years of relevant experience
    • Education above the minimum may be substituted for experience

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of industrial hygiene & safety principles and practices
    • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local industrial hygiene and related regulations
    • Excellent written and oral communication and technical writing skills

    Qualifications We Prefer:

    • Certified Industrial Hygienist or the ability to obtain within 1-1.5 years
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or the ability to obtain within 1-1.5 years
