What your job will be like:

This role is an integral part of a collaborative effort aimed at developing an event-level inference framework to obtain a quark and gluon tomography of nucleons and nuclei from high-energy scattering data. The collaboration leverages expertise in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), experimental methods and analysis, data science, and high-performance computing. The innovative event-level approach stands to have a transformational impact on the data analysis workflow that connects theory with experiment, and will help ensure that current and future facilities, such as CEBAF and the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), deliver on their science mission to reveal the inner structure of the visible universe at the femtometer scale. The responsibilities associated with this position encompass a diverse range of tasks, with a primary focus on the experimental aspects of our project. This entails the accurate modeling of experimental effects through detailed Geant4 simulations and machine learning techniques. Additionally, it involves the exploration and evaluation of the unique event-level approach using experimental data

In this role you will:

  • Plan, coordinate and complete small projects
  • Collaborate with data scientists to develop Machine Learning (ML) methodologies, tailored for accurately modeling experimental effects and accounting for background contributions
  • Collaborate with theoreticians on event-level analyses in the QuantOm framework that facilitate the extraction of quantum correlation functions (PDFs, TMDs, and GPDs)
  • Exploring the potential of the event-level inference framework using experimental data from Jefferson Lab

Applicants should upload (a) their CV, (b) research interest/plan and (c) publication list through JLab's online application tracking system at https://www.jlab.org/job-openi... .

Additionally, at least 2 letters of recommendation should be sent on your behalf to Sadie Cherry (cherry @ jlab.org)

JSA will not sponsor H1B visas for this position.

Qualifications we require:

Education, Certifications and Experience:

  • PhD in Physics from an accredited university

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
