What your job will be like:

As a postdoctoral fellow in Hall B, you will be part of a large team of experienced scientists focusing on fundamental investigations into the nature of matter. Experiments are carried out with the CLAS12 detector and other specialized equipment within international collaborations. The Hall B Group focuses on the three-dimensional imaging of the quark structure within the nucleon, meson and baryon spectroscopy and structure investigations, quark-gluon interactions in nuclei, and the search for physics beyond the Standard Model such as heavy photons.

In this role you will:

  • Develop, propose, and/or carry-out world-class experiments in nuclear and particle physics at Jefferson Lab
  • Collaborate with staff and users at Jefferson Lab to collect data with running experiments and to support other on-going experimental efforts
  • Process large data sets, analyze the data, and obtain high-level scientific results
  • Present your work at workshops and collaboration meetings
  • Contribute to the publication and presentation of scientific results in top-tier journals and at major scientific conferences

Education

    • Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or particle physics

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Up-to-date knowledge in related scientific data collection, data management, and data analysis concepts
    • Programming skills and experience with programs commonly applied in nuclear and particle physics
    • Author or co-author of scientific publications
    • Communication and interpersonal skills to be able to interact effectively with a diverse group of scientists
    • Self-motivated and able to work in a team environment
    • Experience with the construction and/or operation of nuclear and particle physics detectors is desired
    • Experience with a research topic of the Hall B physics program is desired
