What your job will be like:

As a network infrastructure software developer, you will design and implement network tools to enable cutting edge science, worldwide in reach. As a “close-to-the metal” developer you will implement drivers, tools, and interfaces that exploit high performance network hardware to maximize performance. This is cutting edge network development, integral to an exciting new era for high throughput and high-performance computing.

In this role you will:

  • Write driver-level networking code to enable high performance, near real time data flows.
  • Measure and optimize performance of hardware/software stacks to meet customer requirements for throughput, latency, and quality of service in applications where there may be little precedent
  • Implement solutions using leading-edge hardware such as FPGAs, optical switching, and programmable switches
  • Collaborate with division, scientific staff, and staff at peer institutions to debug complex network issues

Qualifications We Require

Education:

  • BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an accredited University

Experience:

  • 6 years of experience developing system-level code, such as device drivers and Linux kernel modules

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Able to communicate complex technical issues clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work collaboratively across knowledge domains and organize multi-domain projects
  • Expert facility in systems programming languages such as C, C++, p4, or Rust.
  • A strong knowledge of Ethernet and IP Networking at the frame level.
  • A developer’s working knowledge of Linux, including networking internals and tuning
  • Experience with Network switches and routers (e.g. Arista, Cisco, Nokia, Juniper)
  • Experience with network performance monitoring and diagnostic tools
  • A working knowledge of physical networking standards (cables, connectors, transceivers)
  • Expert facility with network tools such as Wireshark

Qualifications We Desire

  • MS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
  • Experience with data center fabrics such as InfiniBand
  • Experience with firmware coding
  • System and network administration experience
  • Experience with Firmware
