What your job will be like:
Working within the Facilities Management and Logistics Division, you will be responsible for multiple projects within Jefferson Lab’s Material Handling maintenance program area. You will work with Management to establish and control local material handling procedures and related safety guidelines. These responsibilities may include leading others in completing projects on schedule, using available program resources efficiently and preparing budgets, project schedules, and statistical reports if required.

In this role, you will:

  • Plan and maintain records of inspections, test, and maintenance performed on material handling equipment.
  • Develop, analyze and approve lift plans.
  • Act as the Technical Representative (TR) on material handling maintenance subcontracts. This includes:
    • coordinating all work with JLab co-workers to cause minimum disruption,
    • ensuring subcontractors complete work safely per their Site Safety Plan and Area Hazard Analysis (AHA), and
    • ensuring subcontractors complete their work in a professional, timely and courteous manner.
  • Act as the primary liaison between JSA and DOE concerning Material Handling objectives and issues.
  • Provide material handling training to Jefferson Lab employees for Overhead Crane Operator Qualification, journeyman level rigger, man-lift usage, and forklift operation.
  • Serve as the system owner for all facility fixed cranes and hoists.
  • Subcontract or conduct annual inspections of Jefferson Lab owned material handling equipment including cranes, hoists, jibs, gantries, Below The Hook Lifting Devices (BTHLDs), forklifts, man lifts, and forklift attachments.
  • Assist in conducting annual inspections of Jefferson Lab owned fall protection PPE, accessories, and mobile and portable anchorage equipment.
  • Perform inspections and oversees performance assurance testing of newly installed and modified facility fixed material handling equipment and advises on acceptance by Jefferson Lab.

    Qualifications We Require:

    Education:

    • High School Diploma

    Experience:

    • 12 years relevant experience, or
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Certifications:

    • Certification as a master rigger, crane operator, fork truck operator (or obtain within 12 months)
    • Certification as a fork truck operator: Train the Trainer (or obtain within 6 months)
    • Certification as a Fall Protection Competent Person (or obtain within 12 months)

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    • Deep and extensive technical knowledge crane, rigging, forklift and man lift inspection requirements, maintenance and use.
    • Deep and extensive technical knowledge of various ANSI standards and OSHA regulations related to material handling and mobile construction equipment.
    • Ability to deliver live material instructional training
    • Knowledge and skill in using trigonometry and algebra principals for evaluation of complex lift plans and the ability to instruct others in the application of these math principals for evaluation of lift plans.
    • Ability to research and interpret the code and standards requirements associated with material handling.
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Maintains a high level of professionalism when interacting with staff and subcontractors in customer-oriented manner and with a positive attitude.

    Qualifications We Desire:
    Education:

    • Apprentice School Graduate in Rigging, Crane Operation or Logistician (ex-military).
    • Associate’s Degree (AS) in a field relevant to material handling operations and program management would be a plus.
