What your job will be like:

As Deputy of the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerating Facility (CEBAF) Operability group, you will become an integral part of the reliability and maintenance of our accelerator. This person will be using provided accelerator down time tools to track, assess, and improve machine reliability. This is in collaboration with many department heads and group leaders from the across the lab, including with our Accelerator Operations group. You will also assist the Operability Leader in day-to-day activities when needed. Come and join our team!

In this role you will:

    • Lead repair assessment investigations into extended program downtime events
    • Lead Accelerator Operations department efforts to improve accelerator reliability through cross-departmental engineering analysis to address system performance.
    • Present weekly summary reports on machine lost time and discuss the nature of the
      problems/solutions.
    • Use accelerator machine downtime managing tools to:
      • Collect data to draft reports that provide insight on failing components
      • Analyze reliability, failure rates and yield of components in CEBAF
      • Conduct investigations into the validly of collected downtime data

    Qualifications We Require:

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or related technical field

    Experience

    • 4 years of experience working in an operational research facility

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills
    • Demonstrate good judgement
    • Must be a great listener

    Qualifications We Desire

    Education

    • Degree in Reliability Engineering preferred

    Certifications

    • Process improvement certification such as Lean/Six Sigma preferred

    Experience

    • Experience in Data Analytics or Data Science preferred
    • Direct accelerator operations experience

    Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

    • Functional knowledge of accelerator operations and all the technical systems at CEBAF including superconducting RF, low-level RF, Vacuum, DC Power, control systems, etc preferred
