What your job will be like:
The Brazing and Fabrication Leader will perform all braze-joining and sputtering operations at the lab, using precision process steps in machined components, chemical preparations, process design, braze alloy knowledge and vacuum furnace operations to achieve the desired results. Leader will service as SME for the lab's engineering and technical staff who need braze joining for RF Cavity and Cryomodule assembly requirements. Leader will schedule and coordinate all departmental operations and represent the department at daily scheduling and planing meetings. Leader will be responsible for quality and delivery of the department's production efforts. In addition, Leader will perform all production, scheduling and coordination of press forming and related operations for metal preparation processes and cavity fabrication activities. Cavity forming and fabrication responsibilities require knowledge of sheet metal forming tooling, tooling setup and operations, forming press setup and operation, aluminum, copper and niobium metals and failure mode analysis. Leader will serve as SME for the lab's engineering and technical staff needing support for RF Cavity and Cryomodule component manufacturer. Leader will be responsible for quality and delivery of the department's production efforts.

In this role you will:

  • Review technical data packages for feasibility, process development, material requirements, risk and scheduling.
  • Coordinate delivery of materials and components for processing in brazing, sputtering and forming operations.
  • Perform all departmental operations while under control of process limitations based on materials, design configurations, equipment limitations and other critical considerations.
  • Provide support as needed for vacuum furnace systems, analytical and measuring equipment, forming tooling and other department assets.
  • Complete and maintain required process documentation for quality, technical management and any ES&H safety requirements.
  • Provide technical review for defect evaluation and failure mode analysis.
  • Maintain supplies in braze compounds, filler metals, forming metals, fixturing and special requirements.

Qualifications We Require

Education

  • High School Diploma

Experience

  • 12 or more years experience in manufacturing industry.
  • Education above the minimum may be substituted for experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in brazing operations, alloys, and vacuum furnaces
  • Expertise in reading and working with engineering drawings and models
  • Expertise in press forming and metal fabrication operations using draw dies and related tooling
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and resolve issues with technical disciplines such as design engineers, welders, and vendors, and prevent/resolve problems.
