We are seeking self-motivated individuals to join the Superconducting Radio Frequency (SRF) Group as a Mechanical Designer. The position calls for applicants who have a proven track record of generating complex designs such as cryomodules, structures, testing equipment, mechanisms, machine components, vacuum equipment, electromechanical devices, and piping systems. The designer will be tasked to turn concepts and ideas into working assemblies and systems with independent thinking. The designer will be required to plan work assignments and maintain schedule and may be required to supervise other designers. In addition, they may be tasked to follow projects through purchasing, fabrication, and installation.

In this role you will:

  • Work under the direction of Senior Designers, Engineers, and Physicists to develop state of the art SRF components and systems.
  • Lead the system design in one or more of the SRF technology areas and may providing direction to more junior designers.
  • Demonstrate high degree of competency in design and drafting techniques with Siemens NX and AutoCAD software to create complex models and drawings of components and assemblies.
  • Have practical experience producing orthographic mechanical and fabrication drawings.
  • Understand and appropriately apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

Qualifications We Require:

  • High School diploma plus 9 years relevant experience or relevant Associate's Degree and 7 years relevant experience*

*or equivalent combination of education and experience in the drafting and design field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Performs work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems of moderate complexity.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Comprehension of SRF cavities, cryomodules and their components
  • Knowledge and understanding of ultra-high vacuum systems and cryogenic systems
  • Experience with developing tooling and fixtures for complex assemblies
  • Experience in machining and/or metal fabrication design and awareness of ASME / AWS weld joint design
  • Familiarity with process plant and equipment design including process and instrumentation drawings
  • Proficiency in NX CAD and Teamcenter (or equivalency)
