What your job will be like:
As a DC Power Electronics Technician in the DC power group, one will work with the design, construction, and maintenance of power converters from a few hundred watts up to 1MW continuous power, with embedded controls for remote operations. Will assist engineering staff in the design, fabrication, implementation, and documentation of systems. Fabrication work will include chassis wiring for low and high voltage power supply designs. Periodically repairs and calibrate existing and new power supplies. Required to participate in an On-Call rotations and emergency repair of DC power equipment in support of 24-hour a day operation of the accelerator.

In this role you will:

  • Work with a team of engineers and junior technicians to install, maintain, support, repair and maintain systems managed by the DC Power group.
  • Maintain configuration control, accurate documentation, and procedures for responsible tasks and projects consistent with JLab and DOE standards.
  • Ensure systems are operating at peak efficiency with minimum interruptions by performing optimization, analysis, periodic testing, and corrective procedures.
  • Identify and communicate environmental, health, safety, (ESH) and quality assurance (QA) issues to group members and immediate supervisor
  • Perform and lead minor system preventative maintenance tasks on electronics components and the associated mechanical assemblies and cooling systems
  • Provide real-time support of existing DC Power systems.
  • Lead troubleshooting and repairs of DC Power equipment
  • Install new accelerator components related to DC power and magnets
  • Test and commission large high wattage Power supplies

Qualifications We Require

Education

  • High School Diploma

Experience

  • 9 years relevant experience. Additional education may be substituted.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates an understanding of analog and digital electronic principals and experience with modern test tools and equipment.
  • Capable of following technical directives and utilizing schematic drawings.
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills including the ability to clearly present technical information to varying levels of staff including higher level management.
  • Familiar and comfortable using software tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to obtain Radiological Worker, ODH Worker and Qualified Electrical/Electronic Worker qualifications (JLab training).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of electronics and supporting theory
