What your job will be like:
As the EIC Project Quality Manager, you will lead the quality effort for the Electron-Ion Collider, a large multi-lab Department of Energy project which will help further our understanding of the nature of matter. You will work with project managers, scientists developing new concepts, engineers designing high-tech accelerator equipment, and vendors to ensure that quality is an integral part of our project. You will collaborate with quality colleagues at Jefferson Lab as well the quality teams at our partner labs and vendors to develop and verify quality plans.

In this role you will...

  • Work with the Electron-Ion Collider project managers and teams to ensure JLab and project quality requirements are fully incorporated into project planning and execution.
  • Develop and implement quality templates and processes, consistent with the JLab quality program, for use on EIC. These could include project supplemental quality assurance plans, document management plans, receipt inspection plans, acceptance criteria reports, commissioning or turnover documents, and statements of work.
  • Analyze quality data to proactively address potential quality issues. Assist with developing processes to resolve non-conformance issues, including corrective action plans/reports.
  • Conduct surveillances and audits of vendor quality processes. Work with vendors to address quality deficiencies or deviations.
  • Support project reviews and reporting by providing and presenting information on quality performance
  • Write professional correspondence, technical papers, presentations, and documents in accordance with Lab and project guidelines for audiences of project team members, Lab leadership, or the Department of Energy.
  • Present information in-person or through video conference to the project teams, Lab Leadership, or the Department of Energy.
  • Provide expert support and guidance on industry best practices and novel approaches to quality assurance and quality control. (SE-III)
  • Perform as the quality expert for the Electron-Ion Collider at Jefferson Lab (SE-III)
  • Work with national lab partners to ensure consistent quality processes. (SE-III)

Qualifications We Require:

SE-II

Education:

  • BS in Engineering, Science or similar technical degree

Experience:

  • 5 years of total engineering/science experience, including 3+ years of experience as a quality professional in construction or manufacturing projects which use an established quality management system, e.g. ISO 9001, DOE 414.1D, or USACE CQM.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Skilled in technical writing of plans, reports, and presentations.
  • Skilled in presenting in-person to an audience, e.g. meetings, reviews.
  • Skilled in planning and conducting investigations of quality deviations, identifying root cause, and developing corrective action plans.
  • Skilled in applying a quality management system used in construction, e.g. ISO 9001, DOE 414.1D, USACE CQM.
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience with government contracting.
  • Diverse background in electrical or mechanical construction projects.
  • 3+ years of experience working with vendor quality control, e.g. write or review statements of work, onsite vendor surveillances, perform or oversee receipt inspections, review or disposition non-conformances…etc.
  • Familiarity with the technology, vendors, and national labs involved in the Electron-Ion Collider project.
  • Certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer or Certified Quality Auditor.
  • Intellectual curiosity about accelerators, physics, and science.

SE-III

Education:

  • BS in Engineering, Science or similar technical degree
