Are you an engineer looking for an exciting new opportunity to work in support of groundbreaking science?
The Hall A & C Group of the Experimental Nuclear Physics Division at Jefferson Lab is seeking an engineer for the Spectrometer Support Group to perform professional level technical work primarily in electrical engineering and PLC controls. You will work on supporting the power supplies, magnet systems, vacuum systems and detectors for the experiments. You will be responsible for performing research and development in engineering principles by utilizing basic or theoretical principles and creative analytical techniques typically acquired in academic studies. You will be responsible for remaining abreast of technical advancements and be proactive in applying effective, cost efficient and best practices to execute processes.
In this role you will...
- Perform as the electrical engineer on components and systems employed in Hall A and C’s experimental setups and spectrometers such as power supplies, PLCs controls and safety documentation, detectors, electronics and vacuum.
- Work with other Hall A and C engineers, scientists and technicians in defining requirements, designing, analyzing, fabricating, installing, testing and commissioning components or systems.
- Support procurement and fabrication of components and assemblies.
- Document work in analysis reports, test reports, and technical notes. Present results at internal reviews, and appropriate technical conferences.
- Be on call 24/7 on a rotation basis (1-week duration) for experimental support.
Qualifications we require:
Education:
• Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Applied Physics from an accredited university.
Experience:
• 4 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong analytical and numerical background
- Ability to communicate clearly in writing (e.g. email, memos, explanations, drawings) and explain work to their supervisor and others in the group
- Ability to work effectively with peers
- Demonstrated ability to effectively train his/her work group and effectively lead work teams within the work group.
Qualifications we desire:
- Experience with detectors used in nuclear and particle physics experiments.
- Experience with the following test equipment: oscilloscope, function generator, multi-meters for electrical measurements, power analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, control system measurement
- Familiarity with the any of the following software is desired: Spice for electrical simulations, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) CAD software, Electrical wiring and Mechanical CAD software, Labview
- Experience with 3D CAD tools such as Siemens NX.
- Experience with engineering analysis tools such as FEA software and/or OPERA/TOSCA-3D multi-physics magnetic analysis
- Familiarity with basic fabrication, welding techniques and ASME BPVC Sect VIII.
- Professional Engineer License
