What your job will be like:
We are seeking a self-motivated engineer to join the Accelerator SRF Operations group. As process equipment engineer, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary and diverse team of engineers, scientists, designers, and technicians in the design, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of technical systems and equipment for SRF Operations. This position will also be responsible for maintaining, repairing, upgrading existing SRF Operation production equipment.

In this role, you will work on developing technologies for the EIC Project. The Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) is the next large-scale Department of Energy nuclear physics user facility to be built in the United States. It will be hosted by Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and is expected to start operation within the next 10 – 12 years. The EIC Project received Critical Decision CD-1 in June 2021 initiating the engineering and design phase. Jefferson Lab is a major partner in the EIC Project and is providing significant contributions to the overall project management as well as the design and construction of RF systems, cryogenics systems, electron injector and storage ring electro-magnets, and experimental detector systems.

In this role you will:

  • Be a team member with other engineers, scientist, and technicians in the development of processing equipment and tooling for superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavities and cryo-modules.
  • Work with experienced technicians on the maintenance and installation of new and existing equipment.
  • Develop specifications, request for quotes, and scopes of works for new equipment and installations.
  • Serve as the responsible technical representative and present status reports and presentations on all aspects of new equipment from procurement through installation and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Management, SRF engineers and staff on the design of new processing equipment and facilities.
  • Design systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including: ASME piping, ASME Boiler, Pressure Vessel Codes, and JLab Pressure and Vacuum System Rules.
  • Design specialized tooling and fixtures.
  • Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and improvements of existing equipment.
  • Write technical procedures and safety plans and documents.
  • Apply previous experience in design, procurement, and operations complex processing equipment.

Qualifications We Require:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university

  • Data analysis skills

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Working in automation and/or production environment.
  • Two years’ experience in industrial environment.
